My camcorder was a gift bought in America. The charger cable is snapped, can i buy a british charger?

Question: it is a JVC and they do the exact same make here but i didnt know wether the british charger plug would work or blow it up?
Answers: Since you mentioned it's the exact same make or model, it is best (there's no worry) if you buy a new charger that operates the same local voltage. What's Important is, to be sure, specify the output voltage for your camcorder to the dealer.

Thumbs Up!
It works off a differant voltage 120 in the USA vs 220 in the UK. I'm not sure if it would work. If you are in the uk and using a uk charger it may work. Chances are if you plug it in and it doesn't charge then you're out of luck. The camcorder should automatically detect the voltage and either recharge or do nothing so as not to blow the circuitry. I suggest you check the maufacturer website for more info.
If you are in the UK then using a british charger will be satisfactory - in fact it may be better to use a UK charger since it would have been made to work on our 220/230 volts supply - wheras the American one would be primarily designed to work on 110 volts (but may well also have been OK on 230)

A very useful site to buy batteries and chargers in the UK without paying the manufacturers exhorbitant prices is :-

worthwhile you having a look.

I do have a little concern though if you are now in the UK - I hope you know that America and UK use different TV systems - and if you film on an American camcorder it is very likely that you will not be able to view your videos on a British TV.
Yes the chargers conver ac to dc power. You can use the british version as lonc as the dc watts are the same.
