Camcorder hooking up to the computer??

Question: I have a camcorder and I want to hook it up to the computer to upload something I taped.
I don't know what they are called, but the camcorder has those cords with the 2 ends(ones yellow and ones white). Is there a place on the computer to hook these up to, I couldn't find one but I didn't look to hard.
We have a Dell XP computer.
I didn't see any other cords that came with the camcorder that could be hooked up to anything besides the charger.

Please Help. thanks.
Answers: Depending on the features available in your camcorder model, here are a few things that you can do:
1 -- If you have firewire port in your camcorder, get a firewire card installed in your PC and then using the s/w provided with the camcorder, transfer the video onto the pc.
2 -- If your camcorder supports USB streaming, then you can you the USB port on your PC to get the video transfered onto your PC.
3 -- If your PC has a TV tuner card, give the o/p of your camcorder to this tuner card and then get the video transfered onto your PC

Here is a helpful guide to transfer videos from camcorders to computers.

Cords are usually sold seperately, to keep the camcorder price cheap.

You most likely need a Firewire cable to transfer the video, and if you have a Dell XP, you probably have a firewire connection on the back.

This is probably what you need....

Look at the first picture (IEEE1394/FireWire ) on top of that website.

Update:
I just realized that you stated White and Yellow cords. This may indicate that you have an old camcorder, not compatible for PC usage, therefore you may need a TV-Tuner (for the computer) Capture card to plug those Yellow and White cords into.

My new camcorder offers both the new and old style of video transfer.
You will need a TV tuner (which also lets you watch TV on your computer), or a capturing card with a Component input (which just imports video from a camcorder). This card captures video that is output through the White and yellow cables and transfers it to the computer either from USB or Firewire.

A good, cheap capturing card that I like is the Pinnacle Dazzle DVD Recorder: http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us...

Or if you want a TV tuner, I recommend the ATI TV Wonder 2.0 USB (though it won't work if you have windows Media Center Edition): http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us...
It sounds like the cables you're talking about are the composite (or RCA) cables that transmit video from the camcorder, to the television.

Camcorders manufactured from about 2003 on have USB ports on them, to allow you to easily hook the camcorder up to the computer and capture video.

If you could, please respond with the brand and model camcorder you have, so I can help you out further. You can also contact me personally if you'd rather do that.
Unfortunately you have not mentioned the make or the type of you camcorder which would have allowed me to give detailed and specific answers,

The cable you mention is the ones usually supplied with your camcorder to connect to a TV - since you only mention yellow and white it sounds like you have a mono sound camera (stereo would also have red)

If your camcorder has any other outputs at all (like USB or DV) then they would be better to transfer your video. But if all you have are those 'RCA' connectors there are still quite a number of ways you can do it .

You could use an analogue capture card in your PC and connect the yellow/white RCA connections from your camcorder to it and capture direct as mpeg.

You could use an analogue to USB converter like this :-

and connect it to your PC via USB although I have to say I have never found one of those that works very well.

You could use a digitiser - see here :-
http://www.simplydv.co.uk/reviews/av_dig...
and convert the output from the camcorder to digital and connect to your PC via firewire.

Or if you have a digital camcorder as well quite a few of them (Check the spec) can be used as a digitiser by connecting your camcorder to the camera AV input and the firewire output to your PC

Which ever option you choose you will also need some sensible capture and editing software on your computer - I would suggest you go and have a look at :-

Having the same problem. Have a 20 year old Magnavox VHS Camcorder. Got a Kworld NB-TV 100 Card-bus for my Gateway Laptop with USBs and one Fire wire port. Can't get to work using the YEL & WHT RCA jacks, but got it to work using the coax from the charger to TV cable input on the card. Can play and capture the video and audio, but the darn thing has noise lines on the right side of the picture when there is audio or some one is moving in the picture. Not so when tape is viewed on a TV. I think the Kworld card has a problem but you can't seem to contact them to find out if it can be fixed. BTY, Some of my old VHS tapes that I have not played for years are sticking and stop in the players.
