How do I upload my video onto my computer?
Question: I have a camcorder and have taped some videos and I want to get it onto windows movie maker but it won't read my device. Are the wires that I've used to connect the cam. to my laptop flawed? Help me out here.
Answers: Uploading a video should be a fairly simple process, but it would be hard to accurately answer your question without knowing more about your wiring setup, such as what is the name of the camera's jack you have your cable plugged into, also, what type of cable is it, USB2, or Firewire? Also, what exactly does your computer do or say when you try to record a video?
Well, what I can tell you to check anyway is if the program gives you more than one choice of video sources. If there is only one, and it isn't detecting your camera as an input source, then you might need to download an updated driver from Windows Movie Maker. If there are more sources listed, try all the others. Also try to plug the cable at the computer into different slots. Some computers have multiple USB or Firewire jacks, and may be split between the front and the back of the computer. If the jack you've plugged your camcorder to is turned off , then it will need to be turned back on from the BIOS setup program. (When you first turn on your computer, the BIOS does a self diagnostic before it starts Windows, sets all the computer's parameters, and can be entered into by usually pressing the 'delete' key within the first five to ten seconds or so after you turn on the power.) CAREFULLY check through the BIOS settings to make sure all of the USB, or all Firewire (IEEE 1394) ports are set on. Save and exit the BIOS, then check to see if your camcorder is detected. As I stated earlier, without more detailed info from you, this is the best help I can offer. Best of luck to you!
