Camera help!?

Question: i recently recieved a new camcorder and made a few videos and uploaded them to my computer but when i go to play them it says Codec Required and only plays the sound. whats a codec? and is there anyway i can fix that?
PLEASE HELP!!
Answers: A codec is a 'coder/decoder'. It's a sort of software 'driver' that can decode the movies your camera took.

Read the manual that came with the camera. I'm guessing the codec came on a CD with the camera or can easily be downloaded from the Internet.

Failing that, download the VLC player. VLC Player is a free media viewer that can play just about anything. Get it here:

hi,
a codec is like an add-in that allows other devices to read certain files. Depending on what type of video camera you have it could be quicktime or divx...or whatever

Firstly try to download DivX, and then try to play the file and if that doesnt work that Apple's Quicktime player should. Also try Xvid

Please reply with the camera type and model :)
