My camcorder won't turn off--can you help?
Question: I bought my SONY CCD-TRV33 camcorder over eight years ago and have had no problems until now. When I switch the camcorder to the off position, it turns off for two seconds, then it powers itself back on as though it were in standby mode and stays on until all of the battery charge is drained. When I switch it into standby mode, it powers itself off after its normal wait time, but then it turns itself back on, into standby mode again. I thought the problem was the rechargable battery, which had never been replaced (NP-F330). I bought a new battery, and it is still giving me the same problem. I've now been removing the battery when I'm not using the camera. All other functions are normal; I'm still able to record and play back and use all of the special features...the camera just won't turn off! Is this a problem I can fix myself, or is this one of those problems that will cost me more to fix than the price of a new, similarly-featured camcorder?
Answers: It's hard to fix that model camera. Most likely an IC fried, and IC's are just too small to fix and just not something you can pick out from radioshack or something... Sony does maintain a good aftermarket for repairs on their products, so just drop by in any of their service centers. You're better off with them than doing it on your own, otherwise just buy a new one...
Cameras, these days have better features per buck you pay than eight years ago. You might even like the new ones, you never know... hehe.
I suggest that you send it for repair. Fixing ownself sometimes can cause more trouble and even more damage. It's better that you send for person who's pro to repair.
The problem is probably a loose/worn switch, and also not much you can do. I suggest contacting Sony's customer service to get an estimate for repairs. Then you can decide if you want to go ahead and repair it or get a replacement.
Meanwhile, you probably can still use the camcorder - just take out the battery to turn it off, and pop in back in when you need to record.
you better of with taking the battery out. it will cost to you more to fix it..
