My computer doesn't have DV In/Out or DV Terminal?
Question: I bought a new dv camcorder (canon MV890). I am planning to buy its DV cable, but the problem I have is my computer doesn’t have any dv terminal. Any recommendation?
Answers: You can add a DV port to your computer - such as this:
http://www.amazon.com/Plus-Port-Firewire...
You'll have to open the computer and install the card in an available PCI slot.
You just need a firewire card and cable. They're cheap, easy to install and widely available.
Go to your local electronics store and tell them you need a FireWire card. If you don't feel comforatble installing a card indside your computer, ask them if they have a USB video capture device with a FireWire input - the Pinnacle Studio Movie Box Plus is an example of a USB solution.
YOu can go to CompUSA and buy a FireWire PCI card ($20)
You can TRY a FireWire to USB hub or cord ($25-$40)
Those are your best options.
a firewire card would be the best way to go. easy to install and use, plus they're fairly cheap. however, if you have never edited before, or are planning to use Windows Movie Maker, then a standard USB cable will work. you need to manipulate the camera instead of the computer, but your computer already has USB 2.0 and cables are really cheap and lots of things (still picture cameras, some MP3 players...) use them. Good Luck!
