Looking for a good decent program to transfer home movies?

Question: I have some Reg 8, super 8, and MP120 film tapes that I want to bring into my computer, somehow, so I can edit and create DVD's; but not sure what is a good, fairly inexpensive program that will take an input from an outside source and allow a decent clean up and filter system (some programs let me bring it in, but its dark and somewhat foggy). I am not looking for something that is free, but would rather not spend more than a hundred or so; because if it was too much more than that I could easily just send all my films in to a professional place and have them do it...and the program has to be very user friendly...I am not a computer wizard!
Answers: First, DO NOT THROW YOUR FILM AWAY. Keep it for the future. Film is the most stable media for storage.

Second, there is no program that can bring a film into a computer. It doesn't work that way. It is a mechicaniacal process.

The image from the film has to be captured my a digital recorder. Imagine pjojecting the film on the wall and taping the image with a camcorder. Than you take the dv tape and download it into the computer.

If you do that, it will look crappy because reg8 and super 8 run at 16 or 18 frames per minute, video runs at 29 frames per second It look flashy from the video camera capturing the flicker from the shutter.

The equipment is expensive and difficult to use. You want to have this done by a professional. Any decent camera shop could arrange it for you.

There are also issues of getting the color and the brightness done properly. But if you can live with so so results, just get a transfer done.

The important thing is to get it on DV tape and a dvd. You can watch the DVD and keep the dv tape for the future transfers.

Keep your original film in a cool place and they will also last for the future.

Best Wishes

We use Ulead Video Studio, and I love it. I believe you can even download a trial version of it from their website - a good idea if you want to take it for a test drive.
