Question about the mpeg formatting in camcorders?
Question: I'm wanting to buy a camcorder that records video in mpeg2 format. I read where mpeg4 is the best to upload videos online but mpeg2 is the best for making dvds. So if I get the mpeg2 will I still be able to upload it online, like to youtube, myspace video etc?
Answers: Mpeg 4 is highly compressed, that is why people reccomend it for web videos. (Myspace & Youtube have file size limits) Mpeg2 looks wat better, as it is not as compressed as mpeg2...therefore they are far larger files. Your best bet is to get whatever camcorder you want, and purchase non-linear editing software. You can get decent editing software for a PC for around $49. Ex. Pinnacle, Sony Vegas, Ulead, there's a lot of them available. Editing software allows you to capture the video from your camcorder, edit it, (add titles, transitions, effects, so forth), and output it however you want. So, no matter what kind of camera you have-you capture the footage, edit it, and output it as quicktime, Mpeg2, Mpeg4, or whatever extensions you want. Most softwares list what types of outputs you can do.
This way, you can output as an Mpeg4, re-open the saved edited file, and output it as an mpeg2.
Hope this helps,
