but I want good quality

and I want to be able to put the video on my computer using firewire

so I guess the mini dvd camcorder

idk
help
Answers: I bought a Cannon ZR800 a short time ago. I love the damn thing and it was only about $250. The video is great, and the sound is ok. I bought this one because it has a microphone input. It does have a firewire port, and the Tapes are good for 60-90 mins unlike the dvd types which aren't that long.
For $250 the best is not going to be very good. In the camcorder market these days, camcorders for beginners are best around $400. I still use my somewhat older mini-DV (you are right in the fact that mini-DV has the best quality and the tapes are easy to store) so I do not know what is on the market these days. All I can say to use is to up your budget to $400 and get a mini-DV. If it is a choice between getting a camcorder now for $250 or a camcorder for $400 in 2 months, wait 2 months.

Sorry I cannot be of more assistance,
Randall
