What settings should I use on me Canon Rebel XT when using the 75-300?

Answers: This maybe a totally silly answer, but when shooting with the longer focal length (at 300), are you hand holding? If so, are you setting the shutter speed at the appropriate level? The rule is to use shutter speed faster than 1/focal lenght...or faster than 1/300 in your case. Practically it will mean 1/500...otherwise the image will always be blurry. Solutions...use tripod or use Image Stabilization (not sure if that lens has one). Hope that helps and sorry if I just stated the obvious to you...Good luck!
i have a rebel but not sure what a 75-300 is...is it a lens?
What haslo said is good info, but I have that lens and camera too and find even on a tripod the images still sometimes turn out blurry when using the auto focus. As far as turning out too light, just ajust your exposure -1 stop (under expose). That is a realative recommendation - it will depend on ambient light. You can do that fairly easily in the P mode and can play with the settings in different light conditions to see what results you get - hey, your not out any film! I find the best light to be diffuse daylight on an overcast day or fully in the shade on a sunny day. Using lower ISOs when possible will also improve the image.
