What is the better camera, the canon xti or the sony alfa 100?
Question: so far I've heard the canon is better but I went to the store and held both in my hands. the sony was so much nicer to hold.
Answers: My #1 issue with the XT/XTI is the grip it's the most uncomfortable thing I've ever held in my entire life. I used the camera for 2wks while doing a wedding shoot/family photos and I would never buy the camera for myself personally.
I haven't used that Sony before but I have used the Sony DSLR-A100 and I liked that one better overall, quality and the grip.
I used the camera for a day and I liked it better as soon as I held it.
I was able to get a 16 x 20 print from a photo that was taken with 1600 ISO with a considerate amount of grain considering the fact that it was taken at 1600 iso.
I would run as far away as you possibly can from the xti.
Check into a higher-grade canon, or get a Nikon.
I plan on getting an EOS digital system when I break down to get a digital camera because I use a film EOS and that way the lenses would be interchangeable.

You shouldn't have to buy EXTRAS to be comfortable with your camera. (battery grip)
The Sony I suggested comes highly recommened and I know TWO photo teachers who use it.
Sony bought out Minolta so it's basically Minoltas insides with Sony's name.

The camera runs about the same price as the xti if I remember and I found the results a lot better.
AND! It's comfortable to hold!

The Sony came in LAST in 3 out of 4 categories when compared to the other 10 MP cameras. Canon was second. If you can afford the jump to get the Nikon D80, you'll love it. If you have to settle for the Canon, you are still getting an excellent camera.
I don't know these two kinds (xti or alfa100) but Canon company is perfect and professional about Cameras.
Get the Canon. You can buy a battery grip for the Canon which gives you more to hold onto as well as a vertical shutter release button. The grip also holds two batteries so you have twice the shooting life.
The only way I'd buy the Sony is if I had a ton of Konica/Minolta lenses that have the same mount.
