Do camera companies really honor their warranty?
Question: Under warranty my ex took her camera back to store where she purchased it. The manfunction was the flash. After almost 8 weeks store said her camera was in transit from Kodak.
I told her for any company to really make it right they should extend the warranty 8 more weeks. I know I'm not wrong to expect that. But would they? After all these companies say warranty is 1 year; not 1 year minus repair time.
Answers: The camera is warranteed for 1 year; the repair may be warranteed for a separate period. As long as the other parts don't break within that year, why should you get an extension?
I would find out what the warranty would be for just the repair to the flash.
I could see a warranty extension just because you'd been deprived of the use of the camera due to a defect (just as a matter of goodwill), but other than that, there's no inherent reason to extend the warranty.
Manufacturers warranties are for specific lengths of time.
To return the faulty product you usually have to call the companies customer support 800 number and get a RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) number and then ship it to them.
What the store might be doing is selling you an after market insurance policy that is supposed to extend past the camera companies limited warranty.
There are differences. Usually the store warranty does not include your camera going back to the maker of the camera, but it is replaced by a re-manufactured camera of the same make and model with a new 90 Day warranty.
Ask them to explain everything to you ... if your manufacturers warranty is still in force, then send it to Kodak.
The fotoace is about as accurate as accurate could be, you need to contact Kodak about extending your warranty.
