How do i wire a ceiling fan with a light?

Answers: I hate to say it but Scott is WRONG! Black is the hot wire, white is neutral, and bare is ground.

Now how to wire depends on if it is being controlled by a switch, or switches, or not.

If no switches (or a switch controlling the fan and light), then tie the black and black/white (striped) to black, white to white, and bare to the bracket (should be a screw on it). Use wire nuts (shoud come with the fan) on the wires.

if you have a switch for the light only, tie the black from the switch to the black/white, the black from power to the black, white to white, bare to the bracket.

if 2 switches, then black from one switch to the black, black from the other switch to the black/white, white to white, bare to bracket.

Of course, now a days they use other colored wires (red, orange, blue, etc), BUT white is ALWAYS the neutral, and bare is ALWAYS ground. The others are going to be hot wires, you just have to figure where the come from.
follw the directions.... lol. If you do not have them it goes like this... black wire is always a ground. them it may be a combination of red, green, or yellow. match colors. if you wire it backwords, no prob it will just run backwords. just be sure to ground.

Just me, you may be right.... sorry If I killed anyone.... pick his.
