I have a problem with my the sound on my vcr.?
Question: I have a panasonic HIFI vcr that I bought 4 years ago. The sound started acting up about a year ago (alot of distortion, seems to have a little bit of static as well) . I wet cleaned it and it is still doing the same thing.
The video seems to be fine for the most part.
What could the problem be? Would it be expensive to fix? Could it be done cheaply if I did it? Difficult for a novice like me to repair it?
THanks in advance for any help!
Answers: Is it doing this on all tapes? If not, the problem could actually be on the tapes instead.
If it is, I would try changing the cable that connects the VCR to your TV. If it is a coax cable, I would look around for an RG6 cable with Type F connectors on either end. If it is some other type of cable, just try getting a new one. That's the easiest and cheapest way to hopefully fix it.
If that doesn't work, then you probably have a more serious problem internal to your VCR. It's unusual for the sound to go without the video going, but I imagine it can happen. Fixing it will probably cost more in labor and materials than just buying another VCR, at that point, unless you have a close friend who will take it apart and work on it for free...
