How do you use a old humidifier (general electric shahara 20). What water you put in bucket, what setting...?

Question: i was just wondering how to use it, because we just bought this house, and the past owners didn't explain how to use it.. it's pretty old, but it still works... there are 4 things you could set the dial to : OFF, DRY, VERY DRY, STAYS ON. in the back, there's a place to put the bucket, and there's the Ball thing that's attached to the little dogtag type chain (looks like the bathroom toilet thing... ) how do you use this humidifier?
Answers: it's a dehumidifier, it's extra old, it barely works (probably)
the humidity should be at around 40%, so you set it to maintain that humidity. The bucket goes in the machiine, and from you said, is sounds like you would have a water source attached to the valve somewhere to keep the butcket filled, the ball being the float that opensd the water valve when water is needed
