I videotape TV shows & want a DVD player. What's best? Combined DVD player w VCR, separate, what brands, etc?
Answers: If you get a combo unit you can count on twice has much for repair costs if it breaks down or even has what seems like a minor problem. Average cost to repair a combo unit is $100. Also, even if just one thing goes out the whole thing has to be worked on. Seperate is better. Spend a little more and get a well known name brand like Sony or Mitsubishi. Any weird sounding or names not heard of are pieces of junk, especially APEX.
instead of getting a combo just get a dvd player/burner.. you can just start recording your tv shows to dvd instead..
You should get a combined DVD & VHS player so you can watch your shows and play DVDs at the same time. Although they do have DVRs now where you can burn your recorded shows on a DVD. You're choice:
1. DVD & VHS Player - Two medias compacted into one, inexpensive.
2. DVR - plays DVDs and records shows on DVDs, expensive.
Remember, DVDs never loose it's digital quality over time while VHS does.
I don't think you want one of those combined systems,if it has a problem, you're screwed. The prices of DVD and VCR's today are such, that you can get good equipment for reasonable prices.Buy separate units, you'll be satisfied.
I would go for a recordable DVD player, less space and since videos will be obsolete soon, it is not worth wasting money on a compi DVD video player
