Dvd player question?
Question: i have a philips dvd player and on certain movies, it get to spots and keeps being weird, it sort of pauses but then keeps going, the picture and sound like blips... how do i fix it?
Answers: is your dvd player old? some of the oldest players occassionally get hung up with some of the newer encryption technology on the newer discs. especially stuff from the sony companies. just a tiny blemish on these highly encrypted discs, can make some of the older players hang up now and again. you can buy one of those dvd's that clean off the laser, and see if that helps. if the player is fairly new and has progressive scan, it's almost certainly the disc itself. if people smoke in your home, or it gets dusty alot, i'd look into cleaning the laser.
Make sure the DVD is clean
make sure that if the cd is a dvd-r or dvd-rw make sure that the dvd is compatible with the dvd player otherwise your laser in your dvd player may be fading
Sounds like it's not your player, but your DVD itself. The DVD has probably been scratched in that area. You might be able to repair it by cleaning it with some alcohol and a soft cloth, or find some plastic scratch remover. If the scratch is too deep however, you will have to replace the DVD with a new one.
If it happens in the same spot on a movie, try the disk in a different player and see if it skips there too. If so it is the disk. If not then the laser is your problem. As for a setting for the player... ?? Maybe check the manual but I don't know of any player that would allow you to change the settings to allow something like that. Good luck.
Is it an older DVD player? if so, it may be acting funny on the dual-layer switch. Most models made before 2005 with have some sort of blip when the laser switches tempature to read the second layer.
By any chance is this happening on movies that are over 2 1/2 hours long?
make sure the lense is clean.
Why are you wasting time brooding over something like this. Take it to a good mechanic. He will fix it. If not discard it or sell it for a price and get new DVD player. They are not very costly these days. Go Cool.
