I'm looking to purchase a DVD player/recorder (no harddrive). What features should I look for?

Answers: The region you're in would be top priority (1 - USA, 2 - Europe, etc) and your TV format (NTSC/PAL/etc).

A decent output is good too. Most people prefer Scart because of the auto-switching.

If you've the money, look for a decent surround sound output (5.1 or greater). It'll cost more, but make it more future-proof.

A lot of people also find support for the writable DVDs and CDs useful, too. So you want acronyms like DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-RAW (sometimes it'll be a + not a - - or both).

Also, photo CDs, audio CDs and MP3 CD/DVD are nice little extras.

And a remote ;)
If you get a decent make, the chances are you can use a magic remote that'll do your telly/hi-fi/VCR/etc as well.

And check you get a warranty and guarantee.
No use it clonking out in six months and you can't get it replaced.

Good luck!
