Usually two in front on the left and right of the television, two behind the viewer on the left and right, and one centered over the TV (used mostly for dialog). The .1 refers to one sub woofer (used for the bass or Low Frequency and it creates the rumbling sometimes felt when watching a movie with a lot of explosions).
