Which is better in terms of picture quality on a DVD player, HDMI or Component?

Answers: HDMI is a better connection used for high definition data. Unless you are using receiving high definition (most DVDs aren't) then the component would be the highest quality connection that you need. I honestly can't discern much difference in picture quality between a non high def DVD with component hook up and my satellite movies (sports are much better)in high definition on a DVI connect, but HDMI may improve it slightly more. Still, it will only make a difference on high definition data, not standard definition.
HDMI is better, but compare the prices because it isn't so much better that you'd actually notice it. Check the price of the DVD player that has HDMI versus Component and check the price of the cables themselves. Go with the one that is cheaper because they both offer high defition video that is much better than composite video (assuming that you have a high definition TV... If you don't have a high definition TV then it doesn't matter at all)
HDMI is a connectivity standard. I've tried both on my video projector. To make a real difference you must have a DVD player that provides the right resolution for your projector or TV. 720p is a minimum 1080i or 1080p are even better. For info 720 in the number of lines p means progessive .
Regular TV is today 625 lines. Going for HDMI is a good choice for the future.
