How do I hook up my audio cables when using an HDMI? Should it go from DVR to amp or from TV to amp?

Question: I know that HDMI carries video and audio in digi format. If I run audio cables from my tv to amp in conjunction with the HDMI cable am I losing the digital quality in a D/A conversion inside the television? Should I run cables straight from the DVR to the amp?
Answers: You are correct in that once the signal is converted to analog, it can never get the digital qualty back. Most DVRs also give you a single digital coaxial output. Run this into the surround receiver or amp.
Usually the quality of the tuner from a television is not a good as from a CD player, DVD player, DVR, etc. -including their analog connections as well.

The only way you'll know for sure, however, is to try it both ways and then decide which way sounds better and/or is more convenient when switching between components.
Hook it directly to the amp or receiver.
Some of the premium receivers handle HDMI cable. So you could then still keep the signal digitial and send it to the TV for video.
