I bought a new 12" Klipsch subwoofer for my home theather system... what is lowpass?

Question: and how do know if i'm adjusting it correctly, what am i listening for when i adjust lowpass ?
Answers: You are adjusting the Low-Pass filter. Basically it is the cross-over. The setting dictates at what level you would like the subwoofer to begin reproducing sound. You have to verify what your receiver is set at. The receiver should also have a subwoofer cross-over. You can use either one. If you set the cross-over at anything other than maximum on the receiver, set the sub to max. And vise versa if you select a specific point on the sub cross-over. Now, to figure out where to set it is a bit trickier. You want to test your speakers for their bass limit. The easiest way to do this is to purchase a test disc. The disc will run a sound sweep from 20Hz to 20 Khz. When you hear your speakers drop out, that is where the sub cross-over should go. Personally, start with a setting of around 80Hz and play by ear if you like.

Good Luck!
Lowpass is the cut-off point for your low frequencies. Adjust it to reflect the capabilities of the driver.
