What's the difference between OPEN and CLOSED Headphones?
Question: What advantages / disadvantages does each one pose.. And also what should I use for home theatre/hi-fi use?
Answers: Closed headphones are the type of headphones that DJ's wear. They encase the whole ear and help block out background noise. An option to this is Noise cancelling headphones, although look at reviews, a lot of them have hissing and it kind of feels like there's pressure in your eardreams.
Here's something to think about... what's the weather like? If it's summer and hot, closed headphones will be like a little bit of hell, but if you live at the north pole where it's always cold, then they're just cozy.
closed encloses the whole of the ear, better if there is background noise
No sonic differences, only a matter of preference.
Closed usually filters out all noise.
technically/theoretically open is good because in closed sound wave use to trap in a close design resulting in resonant frequency and due to this sound use to degrade but advantage of closed is that due to close design you can hear better bass compared to open and three four top notch companies due to their scientific expertise manufacturing closed model almost as good as open with added advantage of good bass so closed type are selling more and more popular so go for closed type but remember ordinary company can not manufacture good closed model
In a nutshell, closed headphones encompass the whole ear and block out residual sounds around you. Open style allow you to hear and still be aware of sounds going on around you. Sound loss either way is minimal.
