5.1 surround system, how to with sat, and TV?
Question: I need to know how to hook up this system I was given. It is a 5.1 system. I have a stereo tv, no digital or optical out. I have a rca sat box, no digital or optical either. Both have s-video in and out. I want the sat to be on the 5.1 . Anything else that I will hook up will be with the ant feature on the sat, thus automatically through the 5.1 system.
The 5.1 receiver is on the sub, but only has the 6 component rca's for in.
So there it is, sat box to 5.1 system. How do I do it?
Answers: Just confirming the first answer. Without a satellite receiver that has some sort of digital sound output like an optical out or a digital coaxial, it's impossible to get true 5.1 surround sound.
Depending on how nice your 5.1 receiver is, it could do a decent job of imitating 5.1 sound with just a stereo signal (left and right). Play with the settings, I know mine can take a stereo signal and do a few things with it to imitate surround sound.
But nothing will be as nice as true surround. With that said, just cause you have 5.1 surround sound doesn't mean that everything will be in true surround. You will then have to receive programming that is sending a 5.1 signal. Most primetime TV shows on the major networks are in 5.1 surround if you have the high definition package and all the High Definition channels, but that's about it. Everything else, like MTV, Comedy Central, Bravo, etc., will still be in regular stereo.
well since ur sat box is not capable or 5.1 ull have to settle for stereo.
So just hook up red/white from your sat box to ur receiver.
Ur receiver may have dolby prologic seting use that til u get a digital box.
