High end speakers?
Question: Is it worth the extra dough for high end home theater speakers?
Trying to narrow it down between a few brands ranging from $600 a speaker (for left/rights) to $1400 a speaker.
Can tell a difference in the different price range, but not like holy crap that is a $1400 speaker i just heard.
I know you get what u pair 4 but just wanted to hear some other takes.
Thanks.
Answers: The previous posters are right about speakers being personal preference, but I don't think they answered your question about is it worth it. And with whatever brand you choose, it most certainly is. You are in the price range where every dollar you spend is going to give a fantastic leap in performance. Speakers for about 2800/pair are the best values are the market. It's when you go beyond this that you have to start spending 500$ or more to hear an audible difference.
My top choice for you would be the Martin Logan Claritys. They retail for 3300/pair. Martin Logan has strict rules on pricing, so a dealer will only budge about 5% off that price. I know that puts you a little over your budget but it is definatly worth it! Martin logan also offers the Mosaic for $2000/pr, but it dosen't come anywhere near the claritys.
If you don't wanna budge check out Boston Acoustics and B&Ws lineups. Good LucK!
Hi i have bought a Sony home theatre system $1700 i thought it was the best till my brother bought a cheaper system for $400 and it plays better sound and louder than mine ! mine may look nice but its not even a year and its in for repairs!!! so buy quality and brand but don't pay all that much look 4 something not more than $1000 you will get real good stuff look for 5 year warranty it shows its good!!!
You want to consider a few things.
1. What type of music will you be listening to? A wide dynamic range like Jazz or Orchestra music is certainly worth a better quality speaker.
2. If you're also using them for home theater, you'll want at least 5 speakers for the full effect (1 center, 2 front & 2 rear).
3. Check the impedence or ohm rating. Your speakers MUST match the quality of amplifier. If not, you'll be wasting money on good speakers.
Lastly, good speaker cables are worth the extra price. They will reduce the resistance on your amplifier and help it run cooler and longer.
So much in the realm of audio and video is subjective. What sounds good to one person may not for another because of personal preferences. It also depends on how you will use them.
If these are primarily for home theater and you won't be listening to music on them then go with your wallet and buy at the point where you can't justify the next improvement level for the price then spend that money on a better set of amps. If you are going to sit in the room and listen to classical or jazz etc (any non pop type music) then go for the best sound you can afford; your ears will thank you and so will your conscience.
