Who makes the best audio ,video reciever?
Answers: I think that's kind of like asking which wine is the best. What may be the best to one person, may be distasteful to another.
In other words, it matters what your personal preferences are and most importantly what your budget is. A/V Receivers can go for as little as a $150 to the many thousands.
You have to ask yourself a number of questions. What will I be using my receiver for? Music? Home Theatre? Combination of the two?
What size room will it be in? How many speakers will I be running? Do I want just 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS or both? Do I want 7.1 channels? Do I want it to be a THX receiver? How powerful an amplifier do I need?
I could go on but I think you get the point.
If you want a place to start, try a shopping comparison site to get you going. Shopzilla (www.shopzilla.com) is pretty good at helping. Pick a price point and go from there.
Many people may answer you with a specific brand like Yamaha, Kenwood, Sony, etc. Most brands make some decent equipment, but you have to do some investigating on whether they will fit your needs and your budget... first.
Good luck.
What the guy above me said.
Marantz: http://us.marantz.com/Products/292.asp
Yamaha: http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/recei...
Denon: http://usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/226....
Pioneer: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/pr...
Anything but a Sony. ;)
Denon's are really great, but they are a pain in the butt to use, as the setup/operational instructions are really poor. Still, if you are a geeky-kind of person, you'll probably be fine. Also excellent are: Marantz (NOW OWNED by Denon), Pioneer Elite, and Onkyo. Onkyo's are probably the best sound & features for the $$ in my opinion. Stay away from Sony. You pay for the name & not much else.
First answer was great all brands are good.
Audioholics.com is a great website. Very helpful people in the forums. It's hard to give you an answer without knowing your needs and your setup.
My fav: Harman/Kardon Why? I like how they rate their power, emphasis on great core electronics instead of silly DSPs, look awesome, great reputation; I like buying from an American company (even if the owner of the company's wife is a huge liberal).
BUY A DENON BLINDFOLDED!
NOTHING COMES CLOSE WHEN ITS DENON.
I HAD A DENON AVR 600 HOOKED TO MY BOSE. NOW I UPGRADED IT TO A DENON AVR 1706 AND I M JUST LOVING IT. TRIED PIONEER,SONY,YAMAHA.... AND NOTHING COMES CLOSE TO THE MIGHTY POWER OF DENON.... AND OBVS THE SOUND QUALITY IS MAGINIFECENTO.....
