New format coming out with DVD's?

Question: Do you know a new format of DVD is coming out soon?the players will start at $1,000.00 and the DVD'S will run the public $30.00-$40.00...get ready for high definition or blue ray and then buying adapters for all your t.v.'s!!
Answers: Yes, there are two new formats coming out for high definition: Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. But it will be a long time before they replace regular DVDs. But that doesn't mean your DVDs will be obsolete. These players will play regular DVDs as well.

In fact, because there are two competing formats, this will slow down adoption considerably versus if there were only one HD format offered.

Players are starting out at $500 but some will go for over $1000. These prices are intended for videophiles for whom having the latest and greatest is most important. People with more money than brains (BTW, I represent that remark, sometimes).

But this pricing is nothing new and should not be too surprising. DVD players were $500 to over $1000 when they first came out. Satellite boxes were about $750 when they first came out. Prices will drop pretty significantly in 2007. I'm guessing that you'll see players for $250-$300 before the end of 2007. By 2008 you may see players as low as $200 or less.

MSRP for the movies will be $30 - $40 initially. Street price will probably be between $20 and $35 once enough movies become available.

But one thing for sure -- you won't need to buy adapters for your TVs -- because no such thing will exist.

Regular old televisions won't display full high definition pictures. There are no adapters which will make your TV hi-def. The only adapter is to buy an HDTV or HD-ready TV.

Now, if you were to buy an HD-DVD player or a Blu-Ray player, you'll still be able to hook it up to a plain old television through a composite or s-video hookup. No adapter needed. The picture won't be HD but it'll look about as good or just a hair better than a DVD looks on your TV.

Yeah. Sony's new PS3 will have this technology. It will still play old DVD's though, and they will still make these type of DVD's for a long time. I think the tv adapters are a bunch of BS though. I wouldn't worry about them.
i think you're talking about HDVD or SDVD the higher resolution format dvd's that will display in 1080i format. i dont know if the price will be that high though. at that price nobody will buy.
Yeah, I know about the two different HD discs. Just because it is coming out doesn't mean you have to buy into it yet. Take your time and let someone else figure out the problems with the new devices.
Right on!! I use the new stuff.. It all kik A**!!!
