What are your thoughts about Bose speakers?

Answers: we have some for our home theater system and they seem to work pretty good.
never heard of them
They're generally very good.
Too expensive.
I bought a pair about 10 years ago and they still sound great.
uummm - incredibly expensive!
I. WANT. SOME. :)

But will never be able to.
there ok but you can get cheaper speakers of similar quality
Among audiophiles (those who consider themselves experts on speakers, home sound systems, etc.), Bose speakers are considered vastly overpriced and overrated. People who work at home theater stores frequently ridicule those who come in looking for Bose (rhymes with rose ). Stay away from these and choose a well-respected brand that you may not have heard of before. The best site for speaker reviews is audioreview.com
Ehh... Sound is good, but I don't think they're worth the high price tag.
The 101MM series are great.
I have three different types , 101MM , 101MMG and 101IT .
The good thing about these speakers is you can put them anywhere.(mine are on the ceiling)
Small , but powerfull , hooked up to a system with a super woofer , excellent sound.
Although they are rather pricey , don't settle for less , buy the best.
The sound is the best hands down. If you play them loud, they will blow after a couple years.
I work in TV and radio station for many years in Eng Dept,
Bose is one of the BEST speaker. Recomended 100%

Bose speakers are fairly decent but that also depends upon their location in your room. In addition, clutter can reduce the fidelity of any company's speakers. Speakers should have sufficient free space to allow you to listen to all the ranges of the music, etc. In our office and corridor, we have six Bose speakers (higher end model, Wave ) mounted in the ceiling, with streaming audio and video in a corridor cabinet.
Good but too expensive. You can find a similar quality with much cheaper price.
My thoughts about Bose speakers are that they create excellent sound but they are really expensive.
Bose speakers are known for their excellent audio quality. These guys have been pioneers in high end speakers since a long time. They also have a lot of innovative designs incorporated into their speakers. The price is on the higher side but the quality of the sound that you get is no comparison. I have used Bose speakers for a long time and dabbling in audio equipments I find the remarks made by chicagoanswerman to have no basis. Either he has very little experience or is biased against Bose.We have used higher end Bose speakers fitted in huge auditoriums and just a pair of speakers have given us very good audio clarity and loudness and we have not had any kind of a sound distortion etc. Whereas when we have tried with similar speakers of other brands we have not had good results though they have all passed the tests. However the crisp sound quality etc I have not seen in common reputed brands.
Sound is physics. You are vibrating the molecules in the air at specific frequencies. High frequencies have extremely short wavelengths, low frequencies have very long wavelengths. The wavelength of an 80hz sound or bass drum, is 14 feet long. The size of the driver, or speaker, determines, give or take complicated parameters, the frequency of vibrations . This is why a tweeter, or high frequency speaker is very small, and a Subwoofer, or low frequency speaker is much larger. So, that said, when creating a music system, you want an array of various sized speakers, each one in their range, yet, blending (crossover) smoothly so as to cleanly create each octave of sound in your hearing range (20hz to 20khz). This is why the best sounding speakers have mulitiple sizes, from 1 (high) to 4 (mid) to 8 (low) to 12 (ultra low) to smoothly recreate as much of the original sound as possible. I tell my clients it is like listening to an orchestra, do you want to hear all of the instruments or octaves , or do you just want to hear the instruments someone wants you to hear? (Bose). Bose systems are for apartments, and those who buy on brand only, with more money then definitive sense. Me, I want to hear all of the orchastra, so I want an array of speakers which are designed to do this - and at the sound level I want. If someone gave me a Bose Lifestyle System, I would use them as my tweeters - maybe.
Too much hype, but there are a few models that are very good for the money. The best is the 301 series V. Overall, Bose speakers are too boomy in the bass (have exaggerated mid-bass) and the highs, though strong, are not as clear as speakers which use dome tweeters (like Boston Acoustics for example). It's a matter of personal taste though. People tend to be impressed with the punchy sound of Bose speakers when they first hear them. After a while you realize that the sound is artifical and not natural. You'll note that Bose is one of the only speaker companies that NEVER gives frequency response characteristics. That's because the sound is enhanced, per Bose's own preferences.
Read JeffyB's note carefully - it's right on the money.

A good, reputable manufacturer will give you all the specifications for their product. These specs (when you learn how to read them) are a good measure of quality.

Bose speakers, with their emphasized lower midrange, are specifically targetted at the 50-something and above crowd who a) have more money and b) are beginning to experience some degradation to their hearing; midrange is one of the first thing to go during this period.

A couple of things to point out: when Bose does in-store testing, they NEVER do it next to another pair of speakers; that would give you an opportunity to compare. Also, in magazines that don't get alot of Ad dollars from Bose, their speaker lines are widely panned by reviewers.
I agree with Jeff and David. I have worked with many speakers including Bose both commercial and residential. The reason Bose likes to sell their speakers in their Bose Store is so you can't do a side-by-side comparison. It all comes down to preference: If you like exaggerated low-mids then Bose is for you. You will never get earth-moving bass from Bose speakers. You will never get crisp sizzling highs from Bose speakers.

No highs?
No lows?
Must be Bose...

I'll take my dinosaur Cerwin Vega DX-9s anyday over anything Bose has to offer.

this company has better speakers for the money and they look good to. i use them for movies. for music i prefer my big old McIntosh Tower speakers.
Klipsch. Same or better quality for less money.
Bose speakers are the best speakers of all time. Expensive but definitely worth it.....................................
I've had a pair of 601 series 1 since the early 80's and would not part with them for anything... they are absolutely the best for the money and can still be found on ebay for a few hundred bux
