What system can you buy to block your phone # from being shown, but displaying another # of your choice?
Answers: There is no system but I will write a quick guide on Caller id spoofing for you.
Step one know what caller id is:
First you must know what Automatic Number Identification is (ANI). ANI is used my the phone company to bill the caller. When ever you make a call your ANI information is sent to the the phone company which then sends the informaion to several other swithches untill it gets delivered to your house. So the main perpouse of ANI is to bill you. In the 80's however the phone company had an idea. They decided to have the informaion continue to the called party. At the time this was only availabe to 911 operators and big time buissnesses. ANI information consist of your phone number, your name, your address, and teleco provider.
Whats caller id? Caller id is a service for residential costumers to see ANI informaion. However it is limited. All residential costumers can see is the Name and Number. And the calling party can even block this by dialing *67 before the number.
How does Caller id work?
1. The calling party dials the called party's number.
2. The phone conects to the Teleco which grabs the ANI informaion.
3. The Teleco forwards the informaion to the nessessary switches.
4. If the called party has caller id the last switch the ANI goes through determains weather or not weather to send the informaion to called party. If it is allowed it will pass the informaion between the first and second ring with tones.
How does one get around caller id?
There are many ways.
1. Dial *67 then the number. It will display Blocked Private or Restricted on the phone. However this won't get by ANI so if the party wants your number they can call the operator and get it.
2. Use a pay phone. That is pretty much the only way to get around EVERYTHING.
3. Use a pre-paid calling card. Displays the number of the calling card on the caller id. However most calling card companys forward your ANI informaion so your number can still be traced.
4. Use a orange box. This is a download you can find for free on the internet. All a orange box does is change the caller id signal. In order to spoof the caller id you have to wait for the party to answer so that is a major downside. Google Orange Box to get one and find out more.
5. Cause an ANI failure. This is the only way to spoof caller id. It requires alot of things though. First you need a transparent calling card. By transparent I mean a calling card that when you call someone Your informaion shows up. First call the AT$T operator (they are the only operator service that doesn't forward ANI). Have the operator place the call to your calling card this will cost $1.25. When the operator calls the calling card's ANI computers will get an Error because the operator doesn't have an offical phone number besides 0. The operator for the calling card should come on asking for your phone number. Tell him/her the number you want it to be spoofed to. Then place your call like you normally do when you have a calling card. The name will be changed to out of area and the phone number will be the one your forwarded. Here is a sample conversation.
Calling card's access number - 555-5555
Your Friends number- 222-2222
Your spoofed number- 666-6666
Dial 0.... ring... ring...
Operator- This is the At$t operator can I help you?
You- Yes I would like to make an operator assisted call.
Operator- Okay, what number
You 555-5555
Operator- okay thank you
Ring Ring
Recorded Voise of Calling Card- Please enter your pin
You- Enter your pin
Calling Card Op- Excuse me, this is the operator could I have the phone number of the phone you are calling us with?
You- Oh sure it's 666-6666 (lier!)
Calling Card Op- thank you sir/mam
From there you just dial your friend's phone number and your spoofed number should show up. Your problaly thinking, Won't the calling card operator know what you are doing when he recives an ANI failure? The answer is no. This happenes everyday because operators aren't the only way to cause ANI failures. Sometimes the signals are dirty and the operator doesn't recive the informaion or a corperation is making a call. Hardly ever is it somebody trying to spoof caller id.
So there are some ways you can beat caller id or ANI. Any questions contact me at chester1536@yahoo.com thank you.
