Answers: In order to delete music files that way you must flip the iPod into Manual Mode (in the General tab of the iPod preferences window). Once you do this, the file names will become black and you can delete them. Note that when the iPod is in Manual Mode you can add songs to the iPod only by dragging them from iTunes into the iPod.
